1. Do you think they should have been fired
for their tweets? Explain
I think the firefighters deserved to be fired for writing
those tweets because it is sexists to women, and may make the work environment
uncomfortable for women working at same station as those firefighters. The
tweets may have been a joke, but we are in a modern era were women are more
accepted, and are able to do any job they please. The tweets are offensive to
women and should never have been posted by those firefighters.
2. Based on the article what do you think is the
opinion of the writer? Explain.
The opinion of
the writer is he agrees the firefighters were right to be fired.
The writer has clear supporting arguments convincing the public the
firefighters deserved to be fired. He made arguments about how the
firefighters were being sexists and should know better than to be posting that
kind of thing online, which clearly shows the writer agrees with this decision.
1. Based on your interpretation of the articles do you think the game is too
violent?
I think the video game is too violent. The
objection of the game in general is violent and I believe it has no right to be
sold. The messages teenagers can take from these games varies on the person,
however it can in some cases influence violent acts and be harmful to some
teenagers minds. Games like this have bad messages and shouldn't be sold to
anyone, no matter what the age.
2. Should the release of a new video game be considered news?
I think the release of a new video game is news
because it can help parents be aware of what games are out there. Some games
are very violent and parents should be aware of the games their kids are
playing and how it could possibly be affecting them. If anything the news helps
to increase awareness of the game and could help the creator have a grander
opening day, helping him/her to have a higher income and be more successful.
3. Are these news agencies simply providing more advertising for the video game
industry or are they attempting to provide a critical viewpoint from which to
assess the games impact on society.
The agencies
are both providing advertising for the video game industry, while attempting to
provide a critical viewpoint to help assess the games and their impacts on
society. I believe the agencies are doing both because they want to make money
from the advertising, while being able to aid the public with the knowledge of
what this game entails and its intended audience (i.e. its maturity level).
